Char Type Example
- regular file /etc/passwd
d directory /home
l symbolic link /bin → usr/bin on many systems
c character device /dev/tty1, /dev/null
b block device /dev/sda (disks, read in blocks)
p named pipe (FIFO) created with mkfifo
s socket /run/systemd/... sockets
c means character device file.
It's a special file in /dev that represents a device accessed as a stream of bytes, one at a time, with no buffering or random access. Terminals (/dev/pts/0, /dev/tty1), /dev/null, /dev/zero and /dev/random are examples.
